Landscape
This mangrove forest in Kuala Terong, Taiping forms part of the Larut Matang Mangrove Reserve, being the largest sustainable mangrove area in Malaysia.
The mangrove wood is harvested for charcoal production and a re forestation programme ensures sustainability.
Apart from offering coastal protection from erosion, mangroves are also breeeding ground for fish and other wildlife.
This is the beacon which replaced the one before it. The former was hit by a barge during a heavy thunderstorm one night in 2007.
I have a B&W print of the old beacon taken 8 years ago. Camera of choice then was a Hasselblad 503CW + Zeiss Planar 80mm lens, with Ilford Delta 100 developed in Rodinal. Ahh….the wonderful smell of the chemicals in the darkroom!
