In these days of high ISO capable DSLRs, I occasionally miss film grain (those who were not raised on film cameras, sometimes call it “noise”). I looked up the exif of this photo and the ISO was 1400 and yet the original pic was virtually grainless. I started playing about in PS on adding noise, but was not really happy on the outcome. A quick search yielded the much needed method of adding grain. Go to http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/archive/2007/09/22/realistic_film_grain_for_digit. Thanks Marco. Of course you can buy plug-ins for adding film grain, but why spoil the fun.
If you want to know what the fuss is all about on film grain, look at some photos taken with the old Tri-X or Ilford’s HP5 or Agfa’s APX 400. They are beautiful. Sadly, I am too lazy to go into my darkroom to process and print the old school way. It’s been nearly 2 years since I last printed “properly!”

Shanker, I have known this guy since 1975 (shows how ancient I am!). Still after all these years, one of my closest friend. After being uncontactable (?) for 13 years, I managed to track him down recently. And I am really glad I found him. Good times ahead mate….
